Custom Hearing Aid Styles

Auricle works with Manufacturers to provide our clientele with Hearing Aids that are individually made for each patient by taking earmold impressions and “moulding” the hearing aids to fit each unique ear shape. Let’s look at the two types of custom hearing aids that manufacturers offer, from smallest to most extensive:

CIC

Completely-in-Canal (CIC) hearing aid is a custom-built, discreet hearing device designed to sit entirely in the ear canal for your unique ear anatomy. It is suitable for those with mild to moderately severe hearing loss.

ITE

In-the-Ear (ITE) hearing aids are custom-built to your ear anatomy and placed within your outer ear and ear canal. ITE hearing aids are often used by those with slight to moderate hearing loss. Although the biggest of all ITE hearing aids, the full/half shell ITE is also suitable for those with severe hearing loss.

Standard Hearing Aid Styles

Auricle works with Manufacturers to provide our clientele with Hearing Aids that can be fit “off the shelf” while you’re in the hearing professional’s office (impressions and earmolds aren’t always required). The fitting/programming is still customized for each patient, although the device may not be. First, let’s look at the two main types of standard hearing aids that manufacturers offer:

BTE

Behind-The-Ear (BTE) hearing aids are supportive, versatile and easy to handle hearing aids. The BTE hearing aid can be adjusted to fit a wide range of hearing losses from slight to profound. The BTE hearing aid is placed both behind and in the ear. The hearing aid shell rests behind the ear and connects to the earpiece that fits in the ear with a thin tube.

RIC

Receiver-In-Canal (RIC) hearing aids are perfect for first-time hearing aid wearers. RICs are open-fit hearing aids that sits behind your ear and feeds sound through a thin tube connecting to your ear canal. It's one of the most miniature types of BTEs. In addition, RIC hearing aids are discreet, with the most prominent part (the battery) tucked discreetly behind your ear.
